The Aero Bookcase draws inspiration from the wooden planes that soared through the sky during the 1920s. Its design captures the organic Art Nouveau style of that era, with helix-shaped legs that emulate the airplanes of the time. The bookcase features three shelves made of laminated colored glass, which not only adds a touch of distinction but also creates different tones of light on the reflected areas.
Built with precision and high-tech machinery, the Aero Bookcase is crafted from solid Tzalam wood for the legs and laminated oak wood for the shelves. The shelves are fused with heat and come in various colors, allowing for customization. The entire piece is stained with six layers of polyurethane, ensuring durability and a luxurious finish.
Measuring 945mm in width, 415mm in depth, and 1600mm in height, the Aero Bookcase is designed to be both functional and visually striking. The inverted curved shelves keep books tightly in place, while the crystal shelves can be used for books or decorative ornaments, taking advantage of the reflected light through the tinted glass.
The design process for the Aero Bookcase began in September 2016 at the G.RIOS Furniture Factory in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico, and was completed in December of the same year. Extensive research on the structure and form of airplanes from the 1920s to 1930s informed the original shapes and lines of the design.
One of the main challenges in creating this piece was designing the most appropriate joint between the legs, both for industrial production and aesthetic purposes. The elliptical shelves required a continuous and gradual form, achieved through artistic interpretation and the use of different layers.
The Aero Bookcase has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2017, which celebrates well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. This accolade acknowledges the Aero Bookcase's integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
With its aerodynamic forms and luxurious aesthetic, the Aero Bookcase is not just a piece of furniture; it is a statement of style and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the past. Its unique character and sensual design make it a captivating addition to any room.
